Why is differential diagnosis important in EMS?

Differential diagnosis is crucial in Emergency Medical Services (EMS) because it aids paramedics in evaluating a range of potential conditions that a patient may have. This systematic approach allows responders to consider various possible diagnoses based on the presenting signs and symptoms, thus ensuring that the most relevant and urgent care is provided. While streamlining documentation and reducing time spent on diagnostic procedures are important in their own right, they do not highlight the primary role of differential diagnosis in making clinical decisions.
